Marina Kraeva

Manager High Performance Computing 

Marina's responsibilities include: managing the group and the ISU-ARS/USDA contract; providing user training and support to the ARS and ISU users. That includes providing smooth day-to-day operation, making sure that all help requests are addressed, being proactive in user support, establishing and following precise operational procedures. 

Marina's strengths include: Over 25 years' experience in High Performance Computing (HPC) and knowledge of various parallelization and optimization techniques. In the past she was actively involved in multiple projects on functional and performance testing of several OpenMP compilers, MPI libraries, SHMEM libraries, parallel debuggers and performance tools on various supercomputers and in the development of Run-Time Error Detection Systems (for serial, MPI, OpenMP, UPC programs).

Marina has a PhD in Computer Science and an MS in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Novosibirsk State University.


John Dickerson

Systems Analyst III

John's primary responsibility is helping users be most productive using the software and tools available in the HPC environment.  He has an extensive background using high performance computing, particularly with Engineering applications.  He has been a Linux system administrator for over 20 years, and used various forms of UNIX before that.   One of his main strengths is building and installing applications to run on the HPC clusters. 

John has an MS in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, and a BS in Applied Mechanics from UC San Diego.


Dave Orman

Senior Research Computing Systems Analyst

Dave's main responsibilities include: Automation, Cloud, Scripting, and Slurm

Dave's Strengths Include: Strong leader; unafraid of a changing environment; rapidly adapts to and embraces new technologies; great people skills.

Dave has a BS in Aerospace Engineering, a BS in Computer Science, and an MS in Computer Engingering from Iowa State University.


Jerrod Enyart

Research Computing Systems Analyst


Robert Grandin

Research Computing Systems Analyst

Robert is responsible for system installation, provisioning, and automated configuration.  He also works with hardware troubleshooting and algorithm development. His strengths are system administration, scientific software development and algorithm optimization, and physics modeling and simulation. 

Robert has a BS in Aerospace Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Iowa State University.


Nathan Humeston

Research Computing Systems Analyst

Nathan's main responsibilities include: managing clusters, high-speed storage, and low-latency networks.  Nathan excells root cause analysis. 

Nathan holds a BA in Liberal Science from Iowa State University. 


Yasasvy Nanyam

Business Systems Analyst II

Yash's responsibilities include helping users with software installs and making sure applications work under the HPC environment. He also interacts daily with users and researchers in implementing and following technical direction. Other responsibilities include managing student workers and researching new technologies for HPC implementation.

Yash is a PhD candidate and holds an MS degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.


Charles Zaruba

Research Computing Systems Analyst

Charles primarily handles networking, file systems, data transfer protocols, and evaluation of new technologies. Charles excells in identifying and solving problems that arise. 

Charles holds a BS in Computer Science from Iowa State University. 



Delanie Johnson

Systems Analyst I

Delanie is responsible for creating and maintaining user accounts and projects for SCINet and the USDA.  Her strengths include website design, written and verbal communications, video production, and programming.

Delanie has a BA in English Literature from Iowa State University and an AAS in Computer Information Systems from Des Moines Area Community College.


Jon Reath

Systems Analyst II

Jon's work subjects include guides, user support, Slurm, and hardware maintenance. His strengths include system administration, working with users, and running cables in the top tray.

Jon has an AAS in Computer Network Systems and Security from Bay College.
